Hunting the fugitive Loki

Loki episode 2 ending

(Epitome credit: Disney/Marvel)

And before we dive into that last shot, let's bring some context. With the testify'due south universe established in episode one of the Loki TV series, we're now deep into the time travelling buddy cop dynamic of the series. Loki and Mobius (and frequently some Fourth dimension Variance Authority agents) on the hunt for the avoiding variant Loki. They offset in Oshkosh, Wisc., in 1985 at a Renaissance fair, where Loki stalls for fourth dimension and proves untrustworthy.

Even if you wanted to believe that the fugitive wasn't Loki, he reveals that it probably is pretty early, saying "I come across a scheme, and in that scheme I run across myself." And and so the strategy Mobius (Owen Wilson) employed — yous've got to work with a Loki to chase a Loki — is proven valid.

And Loki figures out that this variant is hiding where they can't exist detected, in timelines that are going to be hitting by an apocalypse. Why? Because any changes they make won't be detected as a nexus event branches, considering everything gets wiped away anyways.

And later on Loki and Mobius visit Pompeii to prove the former's hunch, they air current up going to a mall in 2050 — which is going to be hit past another disaster soon.

Is the avoiding Loki variant ... a lady Loki?

And in that mall, Loki and Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) divide off from the pack to chase the fugitive Loki. But then nosotros realize that isn't the instance. Somehow, the fugitive Loki has jumped into B-15'southward body, and continues to play this game of moving from torso to body throughout the store.

When Loki asks what to call the avoiding variant, they say "you can telephone call me Randy." And throughout the episode, nosotros continue to encounter "Randy" in a cloaked stance.

Or at least we practise until the final shot, where the hood comes off and out pops the face of actress Sophia Di Martino, suggesting that the many faces of Loki (as teased by the TVA's footage of a bunch of unlike Loki variants) can slip outside of the male person gender. That Loki tells our variant "This isn't well-nigh you," so we're left to figure out what we just saw.

Or so we thought...

Loki is gender-fluid, but ...

This is rooted in the comics, and in the press materials for the Loki evidence. First off, there has been a Lady Loki, seen in 2008's Thor #5, when he resurrected in a female person body. And so, at that place was that one time Loki gave birth. No, non to a human. Long story curt: Loki once transformed into a white mare and so gave birth to a equus caballus named Sleipnir.

Lastly, at that place's the promo prune virtually this that Disney put out. Squint closely on the first image in the video, and you'll see that Loki'south gender is listed as Fluid. This matches Norse mythology, as Loki has e'er been able to change into whatever grade they prefer.

Changed interviewed Tom Hiddleston nearly this, and he said he's been enlightened of this for a while, stating "Breadth and range of identity contained in the character has been emphasized and is something I was e'er enlightened of when I was first bandage 10 years ago.

Enter Sylvie, the Enchantress

That said, eagle-eyed sleuths on Twitter noticed something dissimilar in the end credits. Specifically, the Castilian linguistic communication voiceovers. It turns out the vocalism actor for the character is credited equally voicing Sylvie.

And information technology didn't take long for folks to remember the second incarnation of The Enchantress, whose name is Sylvie Lushton. Loki gave this Curiosity comics character, who dates back to Nighttime Reign: Immature Avengers #1 (2009), powers. She didn't know Loki had given her said powers, and we're guessing she may be out for revenge of some sort, or just full general anarchy.

Afterward all, Sylvie did flop the sacred timeline, creating situations everywhere from Ego to Hela.

If the Castilian credits are proven true, then we don't accept a lady Loki every bit much as a female person protege of Loki. Nosotros're waiting for Loki episode 3 to find out if nosotros acquire which is true.
